What is Jute?
Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is one of the most affordable natural fibers in existence and is second only to cotton in amount produced and variety of uses. India has the ideal climate for growing jute and as a result is the world's largest producer.

Why Jute?
Jute is a rain-fed crop with little need for fertilizer or pesticides, in contrast to cotton's heavy requirements. Fabrics made with jute fibers are carbon-dioxide neutral and naturally compostable in your home compost system. Jute can be grown in 4–6 months with a huge amount of cellulose being produced from the jute hurd (inner woody core of the jute stem) that can meet most of the wood needs of the world. Jute is the most environmentally friendly fiber and expired fibers can be recycled more than once.

CJW works with rural and indigenous women who face severe poverty by providing training in production skills, environmental protection and rights’ awareness to become self-reliant.
