Getting Lost Game
The Getting Lost Game is a real world travel adventure game created in New Zealand and played around the world to get wonderfully lost and explore new places.
Purposefully offline, The Getting Lost Game is designed to inspire adventures and get people out of what they know and explore that unbeaten path. There are no rules to the game and the ways you can play it are endless and entirely adaptable to the people playing. The game gives you random directions to discover new places where ever you are in the country.
Getting Lost has been featured on The Project, watch the feature here.
Standard Edition: This kit is the perfect starter pack for finding hidden gems off the beaten track, while exploring your own backyard. A great game that can be played anywhere in the world!
This edition contains 26 “misdirection cards” which give you random cues to encourage you to be mindfully random in your exploration. Cues like "turn left", "follow a blue car" and "head in the direction the wind is blowing").
The Summer Pack: Designed as an add on to the standard edition.
This edition is all about giving you inspiration when you are out and about exploring this Summer. Purposefully nostalgic, the cards include the things we all did on summer road trips when we were young, like stopping for hot chips at a country pub, climbing trees, building sculptures out of driftwood, ice creams and dive bombs!
This pack contains activity cards only and does not contain any "misdirection" cards. For maximum enjoyment we recommend purchasing with the standard edition.
Out of Town: Another add-on with 15 misdirection cards, specifically designed for adventures out of the main cities.
This is one of the biggest booster packs with 15 misdirection cards specifically for when you’re getting lost out of town.
Designed for a few laughs as well as inspiration you’ll find cards like “Cow – go left, Sheep – go right”. There is also a twist on your favourite cards – Stop for a treat is now "Stop for a treat at the next dairy with a Tip Top sign" and Head for Home is now "Head for home after you see a tractor".
The Out of Town Edition is designed as an add on to an existing Getting Lost Game but could be used as a very short version of the game or added to a Booster Pack for a full game. For maximum adventure we recommend using it as an add-on / booster pack.
The other editions have generic misdirections that are easily transferable to other countries. The Out of Town Edition is the most “Kiwi” of all, so if you are playing outside of NZ you will need to adapt a few cards to your local area with some local NZ treats like Tip Top Dairies (a well known ice cream brand here in NZ) and Pukeko’s (a large, blue-purplish, wetland-dwelling bird spotted often in NZ).
Girls Road Trip: A stand alone Getting Lost Game with 26 misdirection cards to help you create the most memorable girls road trip yet. The directions are generic so they can be played in any country.
This edition requires no planning at all. Just grab a group of girls, jump in the car, shuffle the cards and start drawing them to find out where you’ll end up and which places you’ll visit along the way.
Your distance will be determined by who you have in the car and how many exes, sisters or kids they have, plus a selection of random directions we’ll throw at you. You’ll be stopping to go down slides, buying each other a random outfit at a thrift shop that you have to wear the whole day and choosing where you stop for a drink by the colour of the top the driver is wearing. You’ll have laughed, eaten, drunk and had that kind of fun that only happens on the best of girls trips. Even who shouts the next round of drinks or dinner will be decided by the cards!
At Home Edition: Things to do around home on the days you can’t get out and get lost!
Featuring 30 awesome activities that you can do around your home or garden the Getting Lost At Home Edition is purposefully nostalgic with loads of low-cost things you can do with what’s in your house right now. And best of all – they are screen and device free!
On the back of each of the cards are 30 epic New Zealand locations for dreaming, inspiration and maybe a trip some time. Shuffle the cards, pick one out and learn all about the destination online. It’s a great way to discover new places around NZ.
Te reo Māori: With the 26 misdirection cards in te reo Māori on one side and English on the other side you’ll have everything you need to get off devices and exploring untraveled paths while improving your te reo Māori.
This edition has the same 26 misdirection cards you are used to from the Standard Edition (things like turn left or right, head to the highest point you can see) on the back of the cards, but on the front of the card each misdirection has been translated into te reo Māori.
It’s a brilliant way to bring te reo Māori into your everyday life as you learn the different direction cards.
Winter: The Winter Edition is all about giving you inspiration when you are out and about exploring this Winter. Purposefully nostalgic and cosy the Winter Edition has loads of the things we all did on Winter Road Trips when we were young like building dams, jumping in puddles, collecting treasure and heading for the patch of blue sky.
This pack is designed as an add on to full version of the Getting Lost Game but could be combined with the Booster Pack for a shorter version of the game.
